I just read some of "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" by Dr. Christiane Northrup. WOW! She discusses all sorts of issues, and through those discussions I am able to better piece together the hormonal and IBS links.
I don't have it all digested yet (no pun intended), but as soon as I am able to explain what I have learned in my own terms, I will post here.

Stay tuned.

BTW, her website is a good jump off place, www.drnorthrup.com.

Check out the links and FAQ pages. Cool Stuff.

It seems I'm averaging 37 to 43 grams per day, and that this is a good thing. Although my bodyworker thinks adding a fiber supplement is not positive over the long term, I beg to differ. This IBSer feels the additional supplement has been quite beneficial!

On another tack, I have been researching alternative ways of addressing the imbalance of IBS. These include chinese herbs and ayurvedic herbs. There is an ayurvedic remedy called triphala that balances the three 'doshas' (these are the energy within each of us). One can determine one's dosha predominance by answering a series of questions; Deepak Chopra discusses this stuff in his books, and one can find much info online as well. More on those routes later. At present, though, I am exploring the triphala and have found that it is often used to help in IBS.

My next action will be to find an ayurvedic professional in my area.
I also want to explore the chinese herb route - and that would include seeking out a local chinese herbalist/professional.

I am still convinced that hormonal fluctuations make a significant impact on the management of IBS, and one reason for seeking an alternative medicine professional is to be able to holistically address the links.

More later, with links!
