There is a lot to the nutritional malabsorbtion problem. It seems that many people are not getting enough nutrients these days. I speculate that it is b/c we do not eat as much as we did in earlier, more physical times, thus we do not get the quantity and variety of nutrients we should.
So, we need supplements.
In addition to the lack of nutrients, we are exposed to many more toxic substances than in earlier times b/c we live in a postmodern industrial era that foists chemical solutions and electromagnetic gadgets upon us at every turn. This blog is an example of the latter - via my computer and connecting to the internet via a signal/electro wave... you get the idea.
My naturopath has been informing me about the typical nutrient deficiencies she comes across, and about the research/literature on this topic. One of the most common deficiencies is magnesium. This occurs b/c mg is useful in about 350 functions, from all hormonal functions to gastro to hepatic, and endocrine, etc. It seems that without enough mg the body can hold onto toxins forever. Increasing one's intake of mg will assist the adrenals and liver to detoxify the body and to stabilize the rest of the body's functions. Mg deficiency, however, leads to overload, the result being all sorts of symptoms from muscle cramps and dull skin to severe gastro problems as well as sinus, sexual performance, etc.
Pretty important stuff.
I have been taking increasing mg doses for about two months now. I intend to push to whatever my limit might be (limit usually is defined as the amount that will induce diarrhea). As of today I am up to 880 mg with no significant side effects, and lots of benefits. The doc thinks I may be able to load up to 1200. We shall see.
In addition to oral supplement of mg, I am now going avery two weeks for an injection. The injection goes straight into muscle (the glutes) and into blood stream, bypassing the digestive system, thus avoiding any gastro upsets (diarrhea), and greatly assisting the long term effort at rebalancing the overall system.
