HI!
A week ago I was in pretty bad shape. I stopped taking the B6 supplement, and the stuff eventually drained out of my body. I think I still had tingling for several days (and was worried that there might be permanent neurological damage). However, the tingling eventually disappeared. Whew!
Oh, and I also stopped taking my multi, for the short term, b/c it contains B6, and I want to allow my body a recoup period. I will probably start up multi again in a few days.
In the interim, I take my usual C, evening primrose, antioxidant, and am now taking the calcium-magnesium, which is a 2:1 ratio. Am not taking any extra magnesium at present.
Is there an effect?
I would have to say yes. And no.
I am going to continue the experiment (no extra magnesium other than what is in the cal-mag) b/c I don't know how much magnesium I need physically.
Here's the thing - I have read that intestinal disorders show a distinct lack of magnesium effectiveness - ranging from an inability to utilize the mineral properly to lack of absorption to lack of enough altogether.
OK. So there is a basis for loading up and bringing one's efficiency up to speed, but how do I know when that occurs? How do I know if I am overloading?
My new doc says I have been taking too much and that has 'leached' the calcium, throwing me into a different imbalance, which contributed to my leg cramps.
OK. I'll bite. But I also know that I crave magnesium. Now I need to experiment and find out if I have developed a psychological dependence on the easy elimination that accompanies the higher doses, or if my system still needs it to find an intestinal health balance.
YIKES!
