Yesterday I was a slug.
Didn't start out that way.
Actually started out quite well, considering I haven't been sleeping well the past coupla weeks. Lack of sleep is due to a number of factors; new semester, deadlines not met, Mike's job quest winding up & down, too much on my plate and me trying to accomplish it ALL.

So, you see, I got stressed.

Didn't go in to campus today. The lack of good sleep and being a slug yesterday finally got to my intestines. Mucho unhappy this morning. I couldn't go anywhere!

But I gave myself time and LOTS of water. Finally moved those stubborn bowels. Twice. Once before my run and once after.

Today will be a day for work, study, introspection and what my friend Sheila calls 'raw' foods. That means stuff like fruit smoothies, salads, nuts. And lots of water.

So yeah, yesterday I started out early. On campus at 7 a.m. Left at 10 a.m. Had a dermatologist appt. That bothersome thing on my back is, as suspected, a cancer. Basel cell. Will take it off soon, once insurance from Mike's new job kicks in.

Although I expected the cancer diagnosis, it's always a bummer to hear it. After the visit I decided to work from home.
Bad move. Or, maybe not.
I think I needed a day to be a slug.
Watched TV, ate stuff I shouldn't have (crackers! - OK, Rice crackers, but still!). Didn't run, didn't do yoga, didn't even walk after dinner.
What a slug!
Felt good though.

Of course, I paid for it this morning with the stubborn bowel.

Oh well.

Later.

2.9.01

A week ago I was incredibly frustrated. This is something that comes in waves, always has. Sometimes the waves are really really big, and other times they are less so. Always noticable though. What gives relief? Activity. Focus on the issue that brought on the frustration. Disect it into manageable tasks and start with one. Finish and go on to the next. Somehow the tasks pile up, the issue clears up, and the frustration goes away.
Hmmmmm.

Don't even ask how it piles up in the first place.
We don't go there.
(yet)
:-)

Much is happening these days. A writer from Rodale Publishers contacted me - wanted my bio for a book they are putting together. We had a nice chat. He knows a lot about IBS, and intestinal remedies. I told him Mike and I were putting together our own book. He thought it a good idea.

Even bigger news - really big in the near term - we are sponsoring a conference on intestinal health and diet here in Tucson. In January, 2002.
I am pretty excited about this.
More info here.

There will be a keynote by Elaine Gottschall, author of "Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health Through Diet". There will be a panel discussion including yours truly. There will be a couple of workshops on things like acupressure and colon hydrotherapy, and personal habits (and how to effectively change the bad ones).

And I am going to give an efficient SCD kitchen cooking lesson and dinner! Whoa!
I am really excited about that! And I will use all organic food, which I get from Matt's Organics, no longer owned by Matt but by Kathy and her husband, who are also sponsors of the conference. Their website is still under construction, should be up in a week or two.

MY website is also still under construction, and should also be up in a week or two!
The pages have been designed and constructed - just waiting for text, which means I need to WRITE.
Yikes!

BTW, I am continuing the experiment with supplements. It seems I need to balance out the calcium:magnesium at 1:1 in order for both my muscles and intestines to be happy. OK.
I miss the extremely easy elimination fostered by the megadoses og magnesium, but do not want to become addicted. [sigh]
So, I am also continuing with the higher doses of vitamin C (@ 7500 mg/day) in order to maintain total internal health. I admit I haven't run all this by my naturopath yet, mainly b/c I haven't had a chance to speak with him. Will do this week.

One other thing. I have been taking the psyllium once a day, heaping teaspoon in juice/water combo. Yesterday I decided to divide the dose into two portions, one in the morning as usual and one before dinner. Let's see what happens.

Actually the first thing that happened was gas. Yuk. Pretty interesting though, when you think about it. My insides got used to the psyllium in the morning, but had a different reaction when taken later in the day. One would think intestines would be used to the stuff at any time, no?
I guess not.
And, that lends credence to the claims by many that the intestines have their own 'biorythm' cycle, and we need to pay attention to what we eat when.

Enough.
