The Conference on Intestinal Health Through Diet took place last weekend.
It was fabulous.
The energy was so incredibly positive throughout the whole conference, all weekend.
We met some lovely people, many right here in Tucson, and will maintain relationships with all through email and local meetings. Yes the Tucsonans have decided to form a support group.
I am so excited about that!

Details and conference proceedings can be obtained at the conference site, click on the logo at left.

Highlights include Sheila Shea's keynote Friday evening, which discussed the range of disorders, the theories of why we get these digestive disorders, and diet as one solution (to incorporate with other). It was very informative, as well as entertaining - there was a party in the adjoining meeting room and every so often a burst of noise, to which Sheila would stop and smile and comment. What fun!

Saturday four of us suffering with different disorders presented at a panel discussion, a very interactive Q&A session lasting 2+ hours. We then broke into workshop groups according to disorder to discuss details in small groups. Mike and I left early to prep for the cooking lesson and dinner that evening.

The lesson and dinner were at our house, and while we ran a little late at the start, the whole evening was phenomenal. No alcohol, yet everyone was giddy. We had a blast. What a party!

Menu: Appetizers = celery, carrot, red pepper crudite and guacamole. Main = grilled salmon in a walnut cilantro pesto, fresh salad, swiss chard and garlic saute, and ginger orange butternut puree. Dessert = cheesecake and/or apple crisp, choice of herbal teas. Drinks= water.

All foods were prepared from organic produce, including the herbs and spices used.
All recipes are "scd legal" - many are my proprietary conversions from my mother's and old family recipes.
For pix of the party and the cheesecake, pop over to the conference site.

Sunday we learned some excellent acupressure from Lucy Ann McWilliams, an acu-yoga instructor. Sheila finished the conference with a discussion about colon hydrotherapy indications and contra-indications, as well as a few poses for easing digestive distress, one of which was a handstand!
Yes folks, going upside down is a good thing for your bowel!
Incentive to learn the handstand? Hmmmmm.

As usual, days pass and then I realize I should be blogging...
My digestive system is finally returning to some form of regularity. I guess I needed to destress ALOT, before that could happen.

Here's what's up. Am still taking magnesium, about 400mg/day, and will for a few weeks, at which time I will step it down to 300mg/day, and maintain that for a few months until finally leveling at 200mg/day forever? Or at least until the next event? Whatever.

Can't take psyllium these days - it blocks me big time - even a quarter teaspoon will clog the pipes! Yikes! However, ground up flax seed works, so that is my staple for now. And, it works in small doses, which is nice b/c I do not relish putting the stuff on every meal I eat, which I was doing in early December. I just take a heaping teaspoon in juice cut with aloe juice, every morning, and I am set to go.

Aloe Juice and lemon tea are back in the morning routine. Sometimes I don't need the lemon tea, but I think I need the preparation routine right now, so I will continue.
I still start my day with probiotics and an apple (after the tea and first BM). Then continue with a mid-morning breakfast, usually a handful of almonds and some raisins, and my supplements - I had forgotten that that combination will help my bowel move.

Also, am determined to maintain an exercise routine - much needed for digestive ease. Yoga 5-6 days, and running and gym-machine aerobics, like the step and cycle machines, and walks every evening after dinner. These are things I do anyway, but in December and even in November, I slacked big time.
