Our Book. It needs a title. It needs artwork (this is not the real cover). We're looking for a publisher (unless we self-publish). That said, we believe it is almost ready for prime time and should be in print in 2008!

We wrote Our Book to share favorite family recipes that have been converted to meet grain-free and gluten-free requirements, resulting in relief from pain and suffering for those with Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, IBS, Celiac, and other ailments.

For years Laura suffered from constipation and was eventually diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Mike suffered from the chronic diarrhea and pain of Crohn's disease for more than 15 years. Cooking delicious foods from the recipes in this book, Laura has been able to manage her IBS symptoms to achieve greater productivity (e.g., normality) in her life, and Mike has successfully maintained a drug-free remission from Crohn's disease for more than 8 years!

According to the CCFA, over 1 million Americans suffer from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (collectively, inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD). Most are aged 16-35 at the onset of this lifetime disease (it is not considered curable), and are not aware they can take control of their ailment; they succumb to irreversible surgery and/or a lifetime of prescription drugs.

According to the IFFGD, 35 million Americans suffer from gas, bloating, and often alternating diarrhea and constipation caused by IBS. Three quarters are women aged 15-70. IBS sufferers lose about one quarter of their work productivity to symptoms. As with IBD, most sufferers are at a loss as to how to manage their ailment.

We believe Our Book is a valuable supplement to existing literature, including Elaine Gottschall's Breaking The Vicious Cycle (in it's 10th printing and available in 4 languages). Gottschall's book is prerequisite reading for anyone interested in learning about intestinal health through diet, as it describes the science behind the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, or SCD.

Mike and Laura are avid cooks, and these delicious recipes are a result of 9 years of kitchen creativity, converting favorite recipes to SCD guidelines. Our Book contains grain-free and gluten-free recipes for many of the SCD meals documented in Mike's food log (Flog), and much more. Recipes for these meals, enjoyed by family and friends, are now available for your kitchen!

The SCD is not a fad. It is not for losing weight. It is not something most doctors will admit knowledge of. Nevertheless, it is a regimen for folks with IBD and IBS.
