Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

Dinner: Appetizer - stuffed portabello mushroom. Entree - string beans and garlic, grilled turkey burgers, and gazpacho.
mhs@20:26

Lunch: TJ's chicken masala, with spinach.

I also prepared a gazpacho, using fresh, organic tomatoes from our garden. It is chilling in the refrigerator and will be part of dinner!

Breakfast: fruit, figs, dccc, and cheese.

Dinner (yesterday): the last of the leftover chicken cacciatore (awesome), and Penelope Casas' recipe for asparagus, Spanish-style. Basically, some olive oil in a pan, two cloves of garlic (whole, not chopped), and the asparagus. Cook over low flame for 20 minutes, or until asparagus are soft. Remove to serving platter, add coarse salt to taste.

It is only May 5th, and it is already 100 degrees in Tucson. It is going to be a nice, long, hot summer.

Last summer I made a fruit shake almost every day. They are so nice and cool, and very refreshing. I simply blended some chopped ice with fresh berries, bananas, kiwi, orange.. whatever. This summer, though, I have my eye on the Cuisinart ICE-20, a frozen yogurt, icecream, and sorbet maker. I want one!
mhs@16:16

Lunch: cheeseburger, sans bun, with extra lettuce.

Breakfast: fruit

Dinner (yesterday): Malee on Main, in Scottsdale. A nice Thai restaurant--the curried fish was quite good!

Breakfast: scrambled egg and bacon burrito. I sliced the plump burrito lenthwise and enjoyed its contents. Sliced melon, and orange juice on the side.

YESTERDAY, May 3:
Too busy working in Scottsdale to fill in the Flog until this morning.

Dinner: awesome dinner @ Havana Cafe Patio. Chowed on awesome Cuban food. Appetizer: black bean fritters. Entree: pulled pork, with black beans and rice. Didn't eat much rice, of course :-) Washed it all down with a Negra Modelo.

Dinner: leftover chicken cattiatore! There was an segment on NPR during the drive home from work, about a guy (David Lehman) that wrote a poem a day for a year. He published his material as a book called The Daily Mirror: A Journal in Poetry. Perhaps this Flog will someday be published? Any suggestions for a title..email them to me (I'll send you a signed copy of the book when it is published).

Lunch: leftover sausages and yellow squash, tossed salad.

Breakfast: apples and dccc.

Dinner: leftover artichokes, with grilled hot turkey sausages from Wild Oats, and a grilled leek. I cut the leek lengthwise, washed it, and put some oil on it. I grilled it for 20 minutes (on aluminum foil), and served it with a "sauce" of softened butter, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and fresh ground pepper.

Lunch: leftover chicken cacciatore, tossed salad. Laura's cacciatore is absolutely awesome! If the web had scratch-n-sniff, you'd be drooling on your keyboard right about now :-)
mhs@13:32

Breakfast: apple and dccc, with some of TJ's 100% pure, raw, wild and unblended desert mezquite honey--way better than the clover stuff!

Sunday, April 30, 2000

Dinner: Pot luck @ Mitch & Susan's. A wonderful meal including Laura's chicken cacciatore, Kristen's Thai curry dish, baked eggplant with tomatoes and mozzarella, and beef burritos. I got a party favor of sorts--some sort of staghorn cholla cutting, which is about to flower. Can't wait to plant it!
mhs@21:39

Lunch: fresh salad of lettuce and spinach, turkey "pastrami", and pepper jack cheese.

Breakfast: fresh fruit, and two fried eggs.
