Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

It's great to hear from all of the people that learn about the SCD! For example, this just came in from a German guy who inquired about a forthcoming translation of Breaking The Vicious Cycle in German:
"Dear Mike thanks a million, the ball is really moving. Elaine wrote to me giving me an address, and i have written to him, i shall have to wait and see what happens. Mike i cannot thank you enough, it`s good to know that there are people out there who are willing to help.God bless you.
best regards Terry"

No problem, Terry! The pleasure is mine.

While I don't waste much "electric ink" writing about drugs here on Flog, this article on infliximab does include some very interesting graphics describing how patients with IBD are diagnosed. Alas, look at the pretty pictures, but beware of the dark side! :-)

It is a very unusual kind of morning here in the Sonoran Desert. Actually, it reminds me of foggy, misty summers in the Basque country, where the mist rolls over the hills and mountains. In Euskadi, it's called a xiri miri, which is understood by the rest of Spain to be a non-stop, bleak, Basque mist. Anyway, that is what it's like here in Tucson.
Based upon the wonderful, weird weather lately, I am predicting a bit of an el niño winter here (if not everywhere else in North America). Stay tuned..!

It has been raining here! We got two inches during the day yesterday and last night! The air smells wonderful today, the sky is blue, and the birds are chirping away. La vida es sueño.

Dinner: grilled swordfish with broccoli and cauliflower with Punjab eggplant.

What a gorgeous, stormy, rainy day!!! (I feel like Gomez Addams saying that.) Tucson has been under a high pressure front that has swirled around above us for 24 hours. The news says it may last for 2 more days! In a place where the skies are always blue, it is so exciting when a storm comes through!

Lunch: leftover tunafish salad, chicken in black bean and garlic sauce, and a tossed salad.
Breakfast: fruit, nuts.

Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router
Tired of fighting over only one phone line to the Internet? Connect multiple computers to this baby and more than one can surf at the same time! Complete with firewall. We've got this one at home! We share our high speed Sprint Broadband bandwidth (microwave, not DSL or Cable) across a PC, a Mac G3, and a Linux workstation. No server required. This thing rocks!

I love my wife!!!! :-)
Laura made Lucy's Almond Garlic Bread rolls, and they are awesome. If you haven't seen Lucy's Cookbook, check it out!

Dessert: a big cup of chamomille tea with honey.
While clover honey is the most common (at least here in the United States), we prefer mezquite honey from the southwest, which is available at all Trader Joe's. The mezquite honey has much more depth, more flavor. If I didn't have a TJ's nearby...I'd move!

Dinner: chicken with brocolli and onion in a black bean and garlic sauce.
mhs@19:36

A packrat or something got into my garden and it appears to have eaten all of the spinach and coriander seeds that we planted yesterday! Stop! Thief!
mhs@13:02

Lunch: grilled rib-eye, tossed salad. Admiring the perfect blue sky that will cover Arizona from now until March!
mhs@12:57

Breakfast: fruit, fried eggs.

Dinner: better than most restaurants! Grilled trout with butter and pepper, grilled leeks, and pan-roasted baby beets with sauteed beet tops. A small glass of merlot and a lovely walk around the neighborhood topped off a truly awesome weekend!
