"Dot-com bust" or not, there is no denying the power of the Internet. If it weren't for the web I would never have learned about the SCD, the regimen that has kept my Crohn's in remission for 4+ years, drug free. The web remains a wonderful, powerful way for people to communicate, share, support, heal, and grow!
Here's a short interview with Ev, the founder of Blogger/Pyra. And yes, Laura and I did donate to the Server Fund (but it sounds as though they really needed a Salary Fund).
Breakfast: fruit, SCD yogurt.
So Dubya wants to drill for oil in the Arctic National Preserves. To quote his father, that "wouldn't be prudent". Have you contacted your local representatives yet? Tuesday, February 27, 2001 Dinner: leftover grilled Moroccan style grilled chicken, tossed salad.
Lunch: sauteed carrots, organic kale and spinach with onions, and leftover grilled chicken, Moroccan style.
THE RAIN IN SPAIN FALLS WHEREVER THE GOVERNMENT WANTS
Breakfast: fruit, SCD yogurt. Monday, February 26, 2001 Lunch @ Sinbad's on University: the Aladin (a delicious middle-eastern dish of lamb, tomato, peppers, onion and spices).
Breakfast: fruit, SCD yogurt. Sunday, February 25, 2001 Dessert: Peres amb Vi Negre, from Coleman Andrews' Catalan Cuisine. For the non-Catala-parlants, that's pears poached in red wine, honey, cinnamon, and peppercorns. Quite exciting, actually!
Dinner: grilled trout with pepper and butter, tossed salad, and sauteed carrots. Saturday, February 24, 2001 Dinner: pan-seared Tilapia (a farm-raised fish in the Cichlid family?!), sauteed organic kale and Swiss chard, tossed salad.
I am back from a week in San Jose. Sorry, no time to update Flog but here is a quick summation of my SCD munchings away from home while staying in a dumpy motel on The Alameda: Sunday, February 18, 2001 Cold Marble Photo is one very weird but intriguing website. Great photos for the most part...I wonder if they've found infrared black and white film to be as interesting as I have for their subject matter?
Dinner: roasted veggies, sauteed spinach with garlic, and chicken tandoori on the grill! The last of the really great homemade meals for awhile..I'm off to San Jose for the week at Gandiva HQ.
Lunch: leftover steak, tossed salad, celery with SCD-legal peanut butter, cheese. Saturday, February 17, 2001 Here's a photo from February 6th, courtesy of my new digital camera!
Dinner: grilled trout with butter and pepper, cauliflower "mashed potatoes", tossed salad.
Posting from Mandrake 7.2, running KDE2, listening to Philip Glass on my xMMS MP3 player, via my new HP 3250i CD-RW. Kewl!
Lunch: leftover steak, tossed salad.
Breakfast: SCD yogurt, an apple, pecans, banana and raisins.
(snipped from alt.os.linux.mandrake..) Friday, February 16, 2001 Lunch: at Pipian's: Caesar salad, Chilean sea bass with a chipotle sauce (hot!), steamed veggies. I had a beer with my meal, too; beer is not SCD legal so don't do what I do--do as Elaine says!
Breakfast: an apple, dccc, scd yogurt. Thursday, February 15, 2001 Here's a letter to The Washington Post requesting an article on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which is designed to correct bacterial imbalances that result in intestinal diseases like Crohn's, colitis, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Dinner: grilled steak, tossed salad. Awesome!
Lunch: an awful tossed salad with some awful grilled chicken from "Kiss My Knish". No, I won't be going there again! Wednesday, February 14, 2001 Happy Valentine's Day! Chocolate? No thanks, I'm breaking the vicious cycle! I'll stick with homemade pecan, raisin, and coconut cookies! Tuesday, February 13, 2001 Big Crohn's Colitis Foundation of America / National Institute for Health / Elected Officials campaign going on! Please check out this link and send this letter to everyone you know so we can spread the good word about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet! If anyone told you "diet has nothing to do with it" they're wrong!!!
Dinner: a full hour of yoga followed by tossed salad, white bean soup, and some leftover roasted chicken. Perfect for a stormy Tucson evening!
Lunch: tossed salad, roasted chicken, celery with peanut butter.
One of the reasons I like apples in the morning (I prefer Braeburn or Gala and despise those mealy, tough-skinned "Red Delicious"--exactly who said they are "America's favorite"?!) is they keep me regular. Apple in, doodie out. Short and sweet. Apples at other times of the day do not necessarily cause an immediate bm, but loosen things up just the same. Anyway, I'm writing this because at midnight I woke up with the sweats, went to the bathroom for 15 minutes, eliminated everything (nothing left this morning!), and then did it again 15 minutes later. Hmmmm... must've been that apple cider! That, and a lot of stress. Monday, February 12, 2001 Dinner: tossed salad, leftover chicken and fish, and asparagus in a citrus sauce. Beforehand: a glass of warm, spiced apple cider with a bit of merlot.
Lunch: leftover salmon with walnut and cilantro pesto, asparagus, and a tossed salad. Snack: pecans and raisins.
It is sooooo nice to get mail like this (this one coming from a visitor to scdiet.org):
Breakfast: an apple, dccc, figs. Sunday, February 11, 2001 Dinner: grilled salmon with TJ's walnut & cilantro pesto, tossed salad, and asparagus in a citrus and pine nut sauce. Dessert: monster cookies!
Breakfast: fruit, dccc with honey, nuts, cheese...whatever fancies me on this lovely Sunday morning. I should be doing work or updating other areas of glassbird.com, but instead I am adding stuff to scdiet.org. Saturday, February 10, 2001 Dinner: grilled swordfish, sauteed veggies. Dessert: monster cookies.
Lunch: roasted chicken, tossed salad, sauteed Swiss chard with garlic and onions.
Breakfast: fruit, dry curd cottage cheese, and MONSTER COOKIES!!!!! Yes, Laura made monster cookies! :-) Friday, February 09, 2001 Dinner: roasted chicken, beets, and steamed artichokes. And a nice glass of Italian wine of San Giovese and Merlot grapes.
Lunch: tossed salad, roasted chicken, some cheddar cheese.
It snowed in Tucson yesterday. Stay tuned for some photos.
Breakfast: an apple and dry curd cottage cheese with Trader Joe's 100% Desert Mesquite Honey (because it's raw, wild, and unblended joy to the mouth!). Thursday, February 08, 2001 Lunch: leftover grilled turkey burgers, sauteed carrots, and roasted beets.
Breakfast: fruit, nuts. Wednesday, February 07, 2001 Dinner: online in the SCD Chat room: tossed salad, roasted beets with sauteed beet greens, and grilled turkey burgers with ginger and garam masala.
Lunch: tuna salad on a bed of greens, tomato, and onion (from Time Market on University).
Breakfast: fruit, SCD yogurt. Tuesday, February 06, 2001 Lunch: chicken cattiatore, carrots, celery.
A minor piece of Internet trivia: Saint Isidore of Seville is often referred to as the patron saint of the Internet. (And you thought it was Al Gore!) The Vatican hasn't made its final decision yet.
Breakfast: fruit, nuts, SCD yogurt. Monday, February 05, 2001 Dinner: shredded beef salad in a tostada (without the tostada shell, of course!), grilled green onions @ La Parilla Suiza.
Lunch: chicken cacciatore, nuts, raisins, and a banana.
Awww, man!!! Ev's all alone! But Blogger will continue, or so he writes.
Breakfast: fruit, SCD yogurt, nuts.
Live SCDiet Chat: Wed 2/7 @ 9PM EST Sunday, February 04, 2001 Dinner: delicious chicken cattiatore! Dessert: SCD yogurt. I happen to prefer the yogurt from my first batch. It might be the type of milk I used this time (which was unhomogenized) which gave the yogurt a "lumpier" consistency and a less tart taste. That said.. it's still quite good!
Breakfast: fruit, nuts, cheese. The yogurt is finished, and is cooling in the refrigerator. I look forward to enjoying it after my trip to the gym. Saturday, February 03, 2001 Dinner: What a feast! We cooked up: Pla pao ubon, sauteed carrots, brocolli with garlic, and stuffed portabella mushrooms! In case you don't have a Thai dictionary handy, the pla pao ubon is fish with basil and lemongrass. In our case, it was trout, stuffed with garlic, lemongrass, basil, and some fresh pepper; wrapped in banana leaf, and then re-wrapped in foil (like a burrito). Cooked 3-4 minutes per side on the grill.... oooh it was so nice!
Lunch: tossed salad, leftover grilled turkey sausages.
Rock and roll! I am running my work laptop from home, connected to the high-speed line, without having to manually replace all of my TCP/IP settings! Way cool. How did I do this? I'm using a little utility called NetSwitcher. You type the information into the program once, it does the rest. Friday, February 02, 2001 "Gee, I could have been on the SCD!"
I'm making my second batch of SCD yogurt! I'm sticking with the organic/free range whole milk because it made such a wonderful yogurt the first time. This time I'm trying Straus Family Creamery Organic Whole Milk, which isn't even homogonized. Check out the picture of (and a link to) the beautiful Straus farm on the cool California coast:
Dinner: sauteed organic collard greens and spinach, grilled turkey sausages from Wild Oats.
Lunch @ Pipians' on 4th Ave., pork and chicken tamale (without the tamale), navy bean soup.
Breakfast: fruit! Thursday, February 01, 2001 I sold over 120 copies of this book from my websites during the final quarter of 2000. If you haven't already done so, check it out!
Dinner: grilled salmon with walnut and cilantro pesto, cauliflower "mashed potatoes, and a tossed salad.
Breakfast: fruit. It's time to make more yogurt!
