Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

MS-Outlook is innocent on this one
"FOOT-AND-MOUTH BELIEVED TO BE FIRST VIRUS UNABLE TO SPREAD THROUGH MICROSOFT OUTLOOK
Researchers Shocked to Finally Find Virus That Email App Doesn't Like

Atlanta, Ga. (SatireWire.com) — Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Symantec's AntiVirus Research Center today confirmed that foot-and-mouth disease cannot be spread by Microsoft's Outlook email application, believed to be the first time the program has ever failed to propagate a major virus.

"Frankly, we've never heard of a virus that couldn't spread through Microsoft Outlook, so our findings were, to say the least, unexpected," said Clive Sarnow, director of the CDC's infectious disease unit. ..."

Hey! I'm back in Tucson! Yippee!!!!!! :-) For most of the month of March (and part of February) I've been away from home on business, rarely home for more than 48 hours at a time. And while away from home it has been really difficult to make time to update Flog. But I'm home, it is wonderful to be back, and I hope to say home for... at least a week!

Lunch consisted of a healthy, delicious spinach salad with grilled shrimp and goat cheese @ Pipian's. Laura and I met Fields Marshall and his girlfriend Margaret (both from Washington D.C. and visiting Tucson for a friend's wedding) there for lunch. It was really nice to meet another SCD-er, and share stories and ideas.

Breakfast: fruit, nuts, raisins, dried figs, cheese.

Breakfast: fruit.

Results from a small UK study show interesting results regarding the "microparticle theory" as a cause of Crohn's. Interestingly, while the theory focuses on microparticles, the foods the regimen shares some similarities with the SCD in that grains are excluded.

Dinner, yesterday: roasted chicken, roasted eggplant and zucchini (from Pasta Pomodoro).

Lunch: Caesar salad from Cafe Rosalena.

Breakfast: fruit.

Breakfast: fruit.

Dinner, yesterday: roasted chicken from Pasta Pamodoro on The Alameda, spinach salad.
Lunch: a scoop each of egg salad and tuna salad on a tossed salad, some quiche. Lots of D today; must have been the buffet breakfast at the hotel (those "mystery eggs" and hash, undoubtedly).

I'm in California, the land of the rolling blackouts. I got to experience one yesterday (I'm in block 11 of San Jose, we lost power for about 1 hour at 4:00PM). It was pretty exciting. The amazing thing is that nobody seems to really care in advance of the blackout and then they get all worked up because they can't do any work while the power is out. Funny, if they turned off a few lights, ran fewer air conditioners... it might not occur at all.

This appears to be the state to which we are all hastening. Time to look into renewable energy sources!!!

(True, this has nothing to do with the SCD or food, but it is more important and I just had to log it here!)

Revitalizing old infrastructure: a fun article about how the Internet and data transportation are using old infrastructure from the days of horses-pulling-barges-in-canals and (more recently) the railroad revolution. :-)

Dinner, yesterday: roasted chicken, tossed spinach salad.
Lunch: veal piccata and steamed veggies... While the dish was supposed to be just veal, capers, butter, and wine it sure did bother me (it may have been too heavy or rich for my noon meal); I was running back and forth to the bathroom all afternoon!

According to Evan Leibovitch, Linux is like pizza!
"Pizza is a known product with a widely available recipe that's subject to modifications by everyone who makes it. Everyone has access to the tools to make or customize their own, yet most folks choose to have their pizza made for them."

While there are few SCD-legal pizza recipes, yours truly is definitely a Linux fan.
