Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

Lunch: chicken soup and a pear. Snack: carrot-walnut muffins.
mhs@20:03

Breakfast: SCD yogurt, an apple. I got about 4 hours' sleep last night because I had too much on my mind. Don't you hate when that happens?! Anyway, I stared out the window and watched Orion move through the clear, cold (36 degrees) night sky. It was gorgeous.

Dinner, last night: you won't believe it, but I ate a quarter pounder with cheese, no onions, without the bun. And french fries. Don't do this unless you really feel invincible (or are really hungry and completely out of options). They *do* sell mini-salads in a cup at that not-to-be-mentioned fast food emporium, but I just wasn't interested in iceberg lettuce in a cup last night.

According to this morning's New York Times, "There was a sense of watching a skins-vs.-shirts basketball game as hundreds of Taliban soldiers streamed out of Kunduz in northern Afghanistan and surrendered to the Northern Alliance. It was as if all it took to join the other side was to remove one's jersey. Enemies a few hours earlier embraced as if they were old friends. In some instances, they were."

"That applied, however, only to Afghan Taliban troops, about 300 of whom left Kunduz according to a prepared script and handed themselves over to their countrymen on the city outskirts. "Yesterday, my enemy," one alliance general said with a shrug. "Today, my brother." The situation was not nearly so jolly, though, for 400 non-Afghans among the Taliban who gave themselves up in another area outside the city." This holiday season I'm wishing for peace and harmony.

Dessert for breakfast: the beauty of Thanksgiving weekend is the freedom to eat pretty much any leftovers whenever one wants. As a case in point, I am enjoying Laura's apple crisp for breakfast. Not that it couldn't be categorized as a breakfast, but it was initially served as a dessert!
