Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

Going Against The Grain - a book signing for Tucson IBD-ers @ 2PM today.
mhs@08:33

Audrey Kron, of "Ask Audrey", passed away on the 25th of September. I had never heard of her before my recent CCFA newsletter arrived, with an article requesting submissions by "people who had overcome their Crohn's disease". Audrey had never let her illness hold her back and was the author of 2 books on IBD and chronic illness. I was hoping to submit something and went online today to learn more about her other 2 books and visit her web site. A search on Google for Ask Audrey Kron resulted in an obituary listing...she passed away before finishing the new book. Who knows, perhaps the CCFA or her husband will finish it?

Regarding the sad state of violence in the world...if we're going to attack Iraq without provocation then I suppose some radical extremist anythings will do the same to make their point (radicalism and violence certainly aren't reserved to Muslim extremists). Too bad there is so much of this going around. The CS Monitor reports a rise in US of violent environmental extremists. Next stops: shareholder extremists? violence on tv/games/movies extremists? my-neighbor's-dog-pooped-in-my-yard extremists????

Tucson had a nice little parade of military, police, fire fighters, security guards, and more this morning. Afterwards, there were some songs, a 21-gun salute, a prayer, and a moment of silence. That said, Mark Kreiger puts it best in his photograph of a postcard.

I just finished reading The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World, by Michael Pollan. This is a fun and enjoyable book about the beauty and downside of domesticated plants. Pollan points out how plants have evolved to satisfy our desires and causes us to ponder: who domesticated whom? Pollan also explores the dilemma of genetially modified food and the effects of biological monoculture throughout history.
