Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

We certainly hope everyone will make it to the Tucson Bowel Support Group meeting at Mike & Laura's house on 11/23 @2PM!

Fields Marshall pointed out that author Paul Nison is coming to Tucson to speak about his new book, "Raw Knowledge" that very evening. According to Paul's website, www.rawlife.com, he had ulcerative colitis and cured himself with raw foods. This raw diet does contradict heavily with the SCD, but some people find it to work better than the SCD and I am therefore open to sharing this here.

So, as you can see, diet *does* have something to do with intestinal health (whether it is the SCD, raw foods, paleolithic, going against the grain, etc.). :-)

Anyway, here is the info on Paul's Tucson appearances. Personally, I am hoping to attend the pot-luck dinner after our own Support Group meeting.

Laura and I met Baxter Black today at Barnes & Noble. He autographed his book for us, titled "Horseshoes, Cowsocks, & Duckfeet: More Commentary by NPR's Cowboy Poet & Former Large Animal Veterinarian". He's a lefty, and he stood across the table from us and wrote his dedication upside down. Baxter is a very funny and talented character!

The New York Times, on Carter's Nobel Peace Prize: "...Asked at a news conference on Friday whether the award was meant as a "kick in the leg" to the Bush White House, the Nobel committee's chairman, Gunnar Berge, unexpectedly replied, "The answer to your question is an unequivocal yes." The prize, he said, "must be interpreted as a criticism of the present U.S. administration....".

Happy Halloween from Laura and Mike!

Since its creation on April 11, 2000, Flog tracks over 2.5 years of SCD meals! I feel that is nearly enough and may not update it quite as frequently in the future. I feel it is getting a bit too repetitive. That is not to say that I won't update Flog. Rather, I intend to update it when there is a new recipe, meal, event, or article/link to share. Stay tuned!

Supposedly, the whole city of Tucson is reading "Bless Me, Ultima" during October.

Tucson's Annual Report to Citizens reports many reasons why Tucson is in the Top 10 cities to live in: Emergency Reponse Plan Sets National Standard, #7 Hispanic City by Hispanic Magazine, #1 Spa and Resort Destination, Top-10 Place to Retire, #3 Bicycling City, Event Calendar, Top-10 Clean Cities Coalition, #7 Digital City.

This is what is looks like downtown right now (Tucson City Cam).

It is Saturday, it is gorgeous outdoors. I planted some herbs and some seeds for Swiss chard and collard greens. I hope to start harvesting them in mid-December. Meals: all SCD-legal, but stuff you've read here before (or in the Archives).

I'm thinking about getting a food smoker, but am looking into the health aspects as well. They make a very moist, tasty meal..but are there health concerns? Stay tuned.
