Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

I have a new office at work. It's on the 22nd floor of Tucson's tallest building (I used to be on 23, the top floor). It has a large "wrap around" desk, and a long, low filing cabinet below the tall, wide window, which faces southeast towards the Rincon Mountains. Each morning I arrive to my cold office. The cool night air outside and the closed door keep the warm air from getting in until I arrive. I open the blinds, and await the morning sunrise. It lights up the sky, accents the small clouds on the horizon, and then bursts from behind the mountains. I can't really watch it per se, as I am busy working, facing the other way toward my computer. But I glance behind myself every so often, or spin around in my chair and watch the sunrise while I chat with an east-coast customer. It is wonderful, exciting, peaceful. I have a few hours of deep gold, pink, or crimson light to warm the office, getting whiter as it gets brighter. Around 10AM I have to close some of the blinds or I can't read my computer screen. It will be interesting to see how I deal with all this light once summer arrives!

It is a beautiful Saturday. Thanks to some early morning clouds, I was able to sleep a little later than usual. After breakfast, I dabbled on our computers, failing to get the Mac to talk to the PC over TCP/IP. Oh well. Then an hour of yoga. After grazing for a half hour I finally made lunch and then spent a few relaxing, decadent hours reading about Southeastern Arizona on our sunny patio, while hummingbirds buzzed overhead and around me. The mezzaluna is up over the Catalinas, and it is another glorious Tucson day! Queued up for this evening: dinner with the in-laws and some of Laura's amazing pecan pie.

Animals fight back

The quotation on the Wilderness Society calendar hanging above my desk at work reads, "Nature does nothing in vain (Aristotle)". As a twisted scenario offering possible proof of wildlife fighting back, I offer this article from the New Scientist of birds depositing their radioactive turds in the food chain.

Breakfast: homemade yogurt and applesauce, a banana.

Dinner, yesterday: spaghetti squash with papillote of wild Arctic char. Laura managed to find some fresh char here in Tucson and brought it home. I'd never had char, so I searched the web for some suggestions. Nothing showed up on epicurious, but a search on google resulted in a new food domain for me: foodtv.ca. Arctic char is something between salmon and trout; I think the recipe I used last night would work well on trout and salmon as well, maybe sea bass.
