I have a new office at work. It's on the 22nd floor of Tucson's tallest building (I used to be on 23, the top floor). It has a large "wrap around" desk, and a long, low filing cabinet below the tall, wide window, which faces southeast towards the Rincon Mountains. Each morning I arrive to my cold office. The cool night air outside and the closed door keep the warm air from getting in until I arrive. I open the blinds, and await the morning sunrise. It lights up the sky, accents the small clouds on the horizon, and then bursts from behind the mountains. I can't really watch it per se, as I am busy working, facing the other way toward my computer. But I glance behind myself every so often, or spin around in my chair and watch the sunrise while I chat with an east-coast customer. It is wonderful, exciting, peaceful. I have a few hours of deep gold, pink, or crimson light to warm the office, getting whiter as it gets brighter. Around 10AM I have to close some of the blinds or I can't read my computer screen. It will be interesting to see how I deal with all this light once summer arrives! Thursday, January 23, 2003 Dinner: tossed salad, stir-fry of bok choy with ginger and kale, curried eggplant with zucchini, and some chicken. Tuesday, January 21, 2003 Breakfast: homemade yogurt, applesauce. Sunday, January 19, 2003 Dinner: Betsy's delicious beef chili, leftover stir-fry of chopped bok choy, scallions, spinach, and ginger. Saturday, January 18, 2003 Breakfast: homemade yogurt, sliced Braeburn apples, Lois Lang's nut bread with honey. Wednesday, January 15, 2003 Bobby Flay in the New York Times: now here's a roasted chicken to try! Saturday, January 11, 2003 It is a beautiful Saturday. Thanks to some early morning clouds, I was able to sleep a little later than usual. After breakfast, I dabbled on our computers, failing to get the Mac to talk to the PC over TCP/IP. Oh well. Then an hour of yoga. After grazing for a half hour I finally made lunch and then spent a few relaxing, decadent hours reading about Southeastern Arizona on our sunny patio, while hummingbirds buzzed overhead and around me. The mezzaluna is up over the Catalinas, and it is another glorious Tucson day! Queued up for this evening: dinner with the in-laws and some of Laura's amazing pecan pie. Wednesday, January 08, 2003 Harrumph. Tuesday, January 07, 2003 Dinner: Laura's delicious SCD lasagna. Dessert: almond, apple, and pear pie. I'm in heaven!
Animals fight back Monday, January 06, 2003 Dinner: brie, pan-grilled turkey burgers with spice, tossed salad.
