Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

Breakfast: homemade yogurt, applesauce.

Dinner, yesterday @ Sinbad's (wonderful Middle Eastern food): marinated lamb, grilled with mushrooms, peppers, onion, and zucchini. I also tried some of the cold cucumber salad with yogurt, but ended not eating much because it needed more garlic, more mint, and it wasn't SCD yogurt anyway (but I had to try it). I've made my own yogurt/cuke/garlic/mint salad, and it was more to my liking (I must remember to put the recipe in our book...).

Lunch: leftover meatloaf with brie, creamed kohlrabi with carrots.

In light of recent changes in several online SCD communities, I feel the following quote is appropriate:

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn comes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

- Robert Frost

Here are two scanned images of the owls and some of the baby Gambel's quail:

Note that two of the owls are hanging out on some shrink-wrapped containers of fire ant killer (among other pesticides--nice place for a nest!).

It is late springtime in Tucson. It is a beautiful time of year! Fourteen baby Gambel's quail hatched in our yard on Friday. We spent much of last weekend watching them scurry around the yard with their parents. They are like fuzzy pingpong balls with little legs, very adorable. They have to jump up to get at most of the little bugs that are on the organic parsley and other plants in our garden. On the other side of the size scale, the Home Depot hardware store in Oro Valley has three baby great horned owls, about 20 inches tall. They are living inside the store in the gardening area, where this is an opening for them to fly out when they are ready. We also have all sorts of lizards, some of them doing courtship dances and lizard pushups at high noon. And then there are all of the delightful hummingbirds.... It's pretty amazing here most of the time! We got into the 90's yesterday; it is soon to be June.
