Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

View to the Aspen Fire, Day 10: 32,000+ acres burned, 50% containment. Waiting for monsoon to arrive and help over 900 firefighters already working this blaze.

There's an amazing photo today of the fire as viewed from Biosphere 2's viewpoint, as well as lots of live web cams, and photos of the fire creeping up (and down) the mountains on the local paper's site.

This morning we awoke to the smell of far-off fires. The Aspen fire in the Santa Catalina mountains has been burning for over a week and the smoke was trailing off to the North and East. Last night the wind switched directions, and it is coming towards us now. The air is smoky, the sun is an orange ball behind the smoke. Perhaps the smoke we see and smell is coming from a different fire that is in the Rincon mountains. More info online under 'wildfires'.

I am reading a book about real estate. The authors describe the importance of building the right "team". The authors point out that there are many common beliefs regarding money and real estate: "Money is scarce", "You have to be lucky to succeed at business", "Renters will trash your property", etc. They close the section with an insightful question:
What beliefs do you want your team members to hold?

This concept parallels the need to build a supportive team in personal healing as well. It is absolutely possible to find support in family, loved ones, and medical and health experts. It's time to build a new team if their beliefs include things like: "You can't heal yourself", "Diet won't work", "Everyone needs surgery", etc. Assemble a positive team with different areas of expertise, seek their input. Make a plan of action, and follow it, making changes as necessary.

It was 105 degrees today in sunny Tucson! That is just about the perfect temperature for making yogurt--without a yogurt maker!

Last weekend we took a drive through the Baca Float in the San Cayetano Mountains near Patagonia, and stayed at Tierra De Los Sueños B&B. It's a truly wonderful place! We had dinner at Velvet Elvis Pizza (I had bbq ribs with a salad). On the way home we drove through the San Rafael Canyon and up onto the plateau at Canelo Pass in the Coronado National Forest that is the source of the Santa Cruz river. It was gorgeous!

Dinner, glorious dinner: I planted some Anaheim chili peppers this year. They are ripe for the picking. I recalled a meal at Mi Cocina in NYC years ago, called pollo con rajas a la crema. In plain English that means: sliced chicken breast with an pepper-onion cream sauce (made from homemade yogurt). Side: leftover stir-fry of ginger, bok choy, and scallion.
