Nirvana of Peristalsis

(also known as Mike's Flog)

A Regimen for Remission
This log tracks my regimen of attitude, exercise, stress management, and SCD foods. Since I started this regimen in 1997, I've been able to keep my Crohn's in a drug-free remission.

Monkey-see,
monkey-don't

Even though I may have experimented beyond the SCD from time to time, one must remember that everyone is different. Follow the intro diet for 3-5 days, and stick with the SCD until you are completely symptom free for at least one year before experimenting.

An article in today's New York Times (quoting a recent article in Science) explains why "there's always room for dessert".

I grow several types of organic peppers for vegetable stir-fries, as well as roasting and stuffing with goat cheese. These peppers are on the sweet side (not very hot). I found nine (9) Sphinx chersis (Great Ash Sphinx) larvae on my precious pepper plants this morning.

The whole point of yoga, for me, is to relax, do some stretches after sitting in a chair for most of the day, and clear my mind. I want some yoga, I need some yoga.

But I can't focus on the yoga today. It is too difficult. My olfactory synapses are firing too strongly. The reason: Laura made a fresh loaf of Lois Lang's Nut Bread. The wonderful smell has permeated the entire house. I can't focus. I can't free my mind from grabbing a knife, slicing up the loaf, and devouring it with butter or with honey.

I must ignore my senses.
I must convince myself that the bread will be there after my yoga practice.
I must postpone joy.
I must...

Dinner: tossed salad, pan-cooked baby asparagus with roasted sweet bell peppers and garlic, Asian-style tilapia with onions, carrots, scallions and black bean sauce.

Afterwards, a walk around the neighborhood and the opportunity to see a tarantula roaming about, seeking a female mate.

Diet still has nothing to do with IBD:

UK research study finds 92% of people with Crohn's have Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis (MAP) in their digestive systems. It is thought that pasteurizing milk at higher temperatures will reduce this problem.

So the question that comes to my mind is: if SCDers make their own yogurt from milk that might otherwise have MAP in it, do the bacteria in the yogurt culture perhaps consume and otherwise destroy the MAP, or do the MAP "live on" into the SCD yogurt?

Raman's ranting about farmed salmon.
mhs@21:07

Dinner: tossed salad, Moroccan-style grilled chicken thighs. We used the same recipe last night for some halibut and cherry tomato kebabs. The chunks of halibut picked up the flavors very nicely; the chicken only picked up a little.
